Vintage Quilt Pics & New Chickens

First, the quilt, since this blog is mainly about quilting.

Now, my new chicken! Isn’t she adorable? 🙂  I found her in a local shop, in the 70% off stuff.  She cost me thirteen dollars and some change, after tax.  Originally, she was $42.99.  She’s big & heavy.  Some kind of pottery, not resin.  I had to bring her home.

And I meant to blog about this chicken two or three weeks ago.  My friend’s mother came to visit her, and brought this for her to give to me.  She was helping work and estate sale, found this, and thought I needed to have it.  What a nice surprise.

I should be at work right now.  I went this morning, and shortly after I got there, I got really sick at my stomach. Hope it’s just a 24 hr. thing.  My son is now sick with that upper respiratory flu that’s going around.  And of course, he has a golf tournament this weekend.  After a big “family meeting” Monday night, things are much better with us.  He seems to be understanding the reasons for the rules we were disagreeing over, and that for now, at his age, the rules stand.  I got a note from him yesterday, laying on a plate of fresh baked brownies, that said “I’m sorry. I love you.”

  3. The quilting is beautiful Randi. Your new chickens fit right in. Sorry you are feeling bad. I also have the upper respiratory stuff. Went to the doctor this morning. I have sinus infection and bronchitis. I feel terrible, I will certainly be glad when the meds kick in. Hope you feel better soon.

  4. Your chicken is adorable! BUT THAT QUILT! WOWSER!
That is the prettiest TAW I’ve ever seen and it is all due to your quilting. I really love how you quilted that. What great vision you have to separate the areas that way. GENIUS!

  5. Randi, I LOVE the way the feathers move through those rows and make them dance!! It’s fabulous!!!!!!! And I’m glad your week is looking more peaceful!!!!! Hope you feel better tomorrow. I’m still trying to decide which chicken I like best. They are both faboo!!

  6. Randi, this quilt is to die for! You have to put it in a show!! I’m so impressed with how far you’ve come in your quilting over the last year. You must be thrilled!!!

  7. I don’t know if you should be more excited about the gorgeous quilt or your great kid! I’m thinking the kid. Isn’t it gratifying when they show signs of turning into decent human beings? You get an A+ for parenting and feathers!

  8. Randi, the quilting is stunning! I love the quilt and your quilting. The chicken is a cute one and was a great buy.

Your son sounds like an intelligent young man…..hope you both feel much better soon!

  9. Randi – all I can say is AWESOME!! I have all the fabrics purchased to do a TAW later this year – can I please please use your quilting ideas?

    Cute chickens!

  10. I just found your blog and have to add it to my list.

First off: that quilt – WOW Gasp Bravo

Second off: Those chickens. We built a house last year and the look we are going for is Farmhouse. When people would say “Country” we would recoil and say no, that country evokes overdecorated rooms and collecting chickens. Wouldn’t you know that after all those times of casting aspersions on chickens as decor I am seeing chickens that I just love, love, love. Your two would be prominently displayed in my non-country farmhouse!

  11. I am in awe of your quilting abilites. You have managed to turn a very simple quilt pattern in to an absolute work of art. I don’t think I’ve ever seen quilting that beautiful before. I feel like I’m typing a note to Van Gogh or something…..

  12. Oh, you soooooo Rock!!!!! That quilting is just gorgeous. The only problem is that I can’t run my (very clean) hands over it :0) Truly an awesome job! I’m A chicken lover too. Don’t have any real ones but my kitchen could almost be considered a barn yard :0)

  13. Randi,

If you think that quilt isn’t one for a show you are delusional. It is spectacular and you did a beautiful job on it.

I am new to this site and blogging as a whole but…this quilt and the outstanding work you have done leaves me breathless! There are no words available to describe how seeing this makes me feel and I will visit often just to enjoy the sight of something extraordinary. I am a newbie to free motion quilting but this blog will inspire me to keep practicing, practicing, practicing. Thanks so much for sharing.
