DWR Feather Video

I haven’t done a video for y’all in awhile, and I thought it might be fun for some of you see how I quilt the larger feather motif in the center of the DWR blocks.  So here ya go!

Many thanks to my awesome camera man, Derek!

DWR Update

I got to work on it for two hours this afternoon, after not being able to do anything on it since Sunday, when I finally finished all the CC’ing.  I got one row of feathering completed.  Only eight more to go…lol.

It’s been a crazy, crazy week.  Lots of things going on in my life right now.  Big changes coming at my place of employment.  Lots of unknowns right now.  Tomorrow will be mostly spent on the golf course, cheering on the Ranger golf team.  And that reminds me…I am supposed to be baking a couple dozen cookies for that, as well!  TTYL! Have a great weekend!

A little preview….

I am still doing the stabilizing (the continuous curve stitching) on Erma’s DWR, but I had to take a break from it and try out some feathers.  The large feather motif is not a stencil.  I drew it in and stitched it out, and am hopeful that I will be able to replicate it closely, over and over, as I go.  I like it.  I have two rows of the CC stitching done, seven more to go…so it will be a few days before I get back to feathers, or have anything exciting to share.  🙂  TTFN

I think I’m finished!

Whew! I took this off the machine today.  It’s a big one, so it’s hard to get a full picture of it at once.  I will say that the border does not look the same in person as it does in the photo.  I like it much better in person.  It doesn’t seem to photograph well.  However, Erma, if you don’t like it, I can load it back up and add some more quilting.  I’m thinking that I might like to just add a line of echoing on each side of the design.  I also thought about stippling around it, which would take up the fullness, but and make the design really stand out, but…I’m afraid that would make the border too flat for the rest of the quilt.

The technical stuff: I used So Fine thread.  The batting was supplied by my client, and is Soft Shape poly batt by the Putnam Co.  Very high loft and gives lots of definition to the stitching, and held up very well during quilting. I used an assortment of tools on this one.  I used my Circle Lord to do the circles around the stars, and the feathered wreath spines.  I used these stencils:

Fleur de Lis by Pepper Cory
I think this one is by Helen Squire.
The only info on these is "The Stencil Company".

And I used all these rulers.

I hope to get started on the next one tomorrow!  It is Erma’s, as well.  A big double wedding ring!

Wednesday WIP, 2-24-10 (a day early)

My WIP report for this week is more on Erma’s quilt.  Some blocks finished…some still in varying stages of progress…but I’m getting there!

And that concludes the show for today! Have a great middle of the week day!

I Finished!! Yay!

I got my quilt finished in time to enter the Circle Lord challenge.  I’m going to have to enlist some help from my two guys to get photos to submit.  It’s too large to lay out anywhere, and get a full shot.  So, when I have some good light coming into the living room, they are going to have to hold it up for me.  I’m going to leave the zippers attached, and later, when things have slowed back down around here some, I will zip it back onto the machine, to stitch the binding onto the front.  Now that I have learned to do that, I like it so much better than wrestling a quilt this large while stitching it on with my sewing machine.  I haven’t even made the binding yet.  That can wait.  I’m tired of this one for now…lol.

After I get my quilting room straightened back up, the machine and table cleaned, I’ve got some really neat customer quilts lined up to get started on, so stay tuned…more quilting to come! Happy Valentine’s day! 🙂

Racing to the Deadline

I haven’t been posting much.  I’ve been very busy in my spare time, trying to get this quilt finished in time to enter it into the Circle Lord challenge.  (You can read about that on the special blog they have set up for it, by clicking the link.)  I may not make it, but I’m having fun using my Circle Lord, and becoming more familiar with it.  It was just the push I needed to get it out and start using it.  It’s a wonderful tool.  I’ve been using the basic unit, and the Aztec and mini-Aztec templates, on this quilt.  We had a blizzard this week, which afforded me some extra time at home, since noon Thursday, and I have made some good progress, but I still have a long way to the finish.

Speaking of blizzard, they said we got approximately 10″ of snow, maybe a bit more in places.  Here are some pics I snapped at my house.  This is the view looking out of my front door Thursday evening.

The tops of my lawn chairs sticking up from the drift.

The view from the front of my house, the next morning.

Love this tree in the backyard.

Would you just hurry and fill the bird feeder, please?

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed our brief visit!

Poll Decision

I went with the feathers.  This quilt is going to take me forever….I’m real happy with some of what I’m doing…not so much with some.  But, once again, I’m trying new things and learning along the way.  And that’s a good thing!

Yes, there is a line of stitching missing in the piano keys…thread malfunction…had to pick it out.
