Goodness. It’s been 8 months since I stopped in to blog. Lots of life happening. For now, I will start back with a cute post about a baby bird.
We had a storm blow through yesterday evening that had some fierce straight wind in it. Lots of branches and broken trees around town. In our yard, I noticed a small nest upside down on the front lawn. I turned it right side up and found its baby inhabitant clinging to the inside of the nest. It’s a Western kingbird.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, but as I was standing there pondering the situation I saw my plant stand. I took it, set an empty flower pot in it and stuck it in my yard underneath one of the trees I thought it may have fallen from. Then I filled the pot with small branches and leaves and set the nest and baby bird inside. I picked up a couple more leafy branches that came down in the storm and gave it a little covering over the top, but not so much that it couldn’t be seen by its parents, whom I was hoping would find it and continue to care for it. I left it alone for the night with fingers crossed.
Well, not only did mama and daddy find it and resume feeding, but they are also fiercely guarding the new nest. So glad it looks like a happy ending for this little one. For now anyway.
We missed you! Thank you for always taking care of the critters … two legged and four legged!
Love you, sammi
